This is probably asked a lot..
but...

Say I want to put an image from photobucket.com onto my own freewebs website....Am I not allowed to, just because it says "© 2009 photobucket inc. all rights reserved." at the bottom of the page? What if I write something on the photo caption on my website that says that I got it from their website?

I never understood the image copyrights because everyone just takes images from other peoples' websites no matter what... but yeah

You can be sued by them for using their copyright photos. This is a very complicated subject. Best thing to do is to look on Flickr, put your search word in. Then click on Advanced Search and towards the bottom look for Creative Commons. Creative Commons are the easiest to use.

Check in the box that says "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content". And check the next box that says "Find content to use commercially".

Then search those pictures. When you click on a picture you might want, look at that copyright. Most of them say you can use them as long as you attribute it back to the author. There are different ways to do this. What most people do is to type something like "photo by Jim Smith/Flickr and have that as a link back to the original picture. And if you can't type that under the picture, make sure and put it somewhere on your web or blog page.

That is a simple way to do it. And some say that isnt enough. There are some other ways. Look at the link here for a better explanation.
