Does anyone get pain meRAB like months or years after back surgery. I am in severe pain (mostly left hip and legs) No one will give me pain medicine. I am a normal person no drugs, drinking, etc. Yet no one will give me any pain medicine. They say I will get addicted. I am in pain...how do you get anyone to give you something for it?

How long ago did you have surgery? Many surgeons and family physicians will not prescribe the heavy hitting pain meRAB long term. It has nothing to do with you, it's just their policy due to all the regulations surrounding them. Have you gone to a pain management specialist? That would be the best bet to get your pain under control.

I wish you the best!
Emily

P.S. Yes, many of us are on pain meRAB for life.

i totally agree with blue above. getting in to see a good pain management doc really would be the best way to get your pain under some level of control. a good PM can just offer you sooo many different types of pain control methoRAB that are not always just meRAB alone. i would not be sitting here at all typing if it was not for my great PM.

has this pain always been there post op or did it pop in after the fact? how long ago was this surgery done? what exactly did you have done when you had this particular surgery? its just depending upon how long ago this surgery was, there could just be something else going on that is newer and not always something related to another surgery too ya know? espescially if this is a newer type of pain you are experiencing. but DO speak to your primary doc about referring you to a good pain management facility. if he or she wont help you then they owe it to you to simply refer you to someone who can. its that basic and simple ya know? i do wish you luck in getting that referral so you can gain at least some level of tolerability here. no one should have to suffer when there are places any doc can refer a patient to that will help them deal with their ongoing pain and treat it appropriately. please keep us posted. you do deserve much better pain care than this. Marcia

I agree with Emily. There are alot of us. My surgeon is actually the one who told me that I will live with some degree of pain the rest of my life. (how's that for an honest answer?) At least he answered my question...

You need to find a good Pain Management doctor that will take you in and treat you with the meRAB and the other modalities that you need to get this under control. I wouldn't be working 40+ hours a week if he wasn't the wonderful guy that he is. He works with me on adjusting the meRAB and argues with me about taking them when I would much rather not. We have a good relationship and he is prompt about replying to emails when I have questions....which reminRAB...... :)

Sophie has a duplicate post. She posted a response stating that she is currently going to a pm dr in her other post.
