I've been reading a book about Diana Mosley which includes an account of her friendship with Evelyn Waugh. Her relationship with Waugh appears to have declined at more or less the same time that she met Mosley and became infatuated with (a) him and (b) Fascism. We know that she influenced Waugh as a writer in some degree (Vile Bodies was dedicated to her and her then-husband). But I'm struck by the strong parallels between Diana and Bryan Guinness and the fictional Tony and Brenda Last from A Handful of Dust.
I have tried without success to find any information online that would confirm or disprove that the Lasts were modeled on the real-life Guinnesses. Does anyone out there have either a link, know of a book, or have an informed opinion about this? I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.
