I have noticed this alot on here. When someone asks what they should study, there are a alot of responses that look something like this
Striking - Muy Thai, Boxing, Kyokushin Karate
Clinching - Boxing, Judo, Greco-Roman
Grappling - BJJ, Freestyle
I am a little confused by these answers. Everyone i know that trains for MMA, whether they have a background in another sport or not, goes to an MMA gym and trains in MMA. In their training they learn the techniques that work best for those competitions and their coaches / instructors help to strengthen their weaknesses and exploit their strengths. Where my confusion arises is that if you are following these formulas and training in 2,3,or 4 different arts at once how much time is left to train in MMA? Also where do these guys find the time? Because my 2 friends are training 4 days a week, sometimes 5 at their MMA gym and thats not even counting their jogging, weightlifting and swimming. Are these guys at the boxing gym on mondays and wedsnesdays and then to Judo Tuesdays and Thursdays with BJJ on Saturdays, plus sneaking in Thai Boxing in the mornings or something. If so are they even really learning anything? Is this really a "formula" MMA fighters are using or is this just couch potatoes repeating what they heard at the last UFC payperview?
