Hello. I'm a recently discharged veteran who served in the Army in the medical field. I got out because I wanted to go back to school and pursue higher education, and I would really like to build a career in service to others - as a physician. Patient care was the most rewarding aspect of all my previous work experience, and I would absolutely love to be a doctor. Specifically, I'm interested in Emergency Medicine.
That being said, now that I'm going back to school full-time, I want to major in something that will be a good fall back for a career in case I don't get accepted into medical school. I've always been interested in Engineering - essentially the science and math based creative design and problem solving capabilities associated with the career field - and I think it would be an excellent fall-back plan were I to not get accepted into med school. But, I have the following questions:
1) How difficult will it be to finish an undergraduate degree in Engineering while simutaneously taking the pre-med curriculum?
2) Do Engineering majors have a good chance of getting accepted into medical school?
3) Which Engineering major (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Biomedical, Chemical, Engineering Physics) would be best for me to get into Medical school?
Thanks!
