Hi I have a question about working in law. I have a fiance that graduated with a law degree and he doesn't have a job and refuses to get one because he says he is depressed and because some of the jobs that he sees don't pay enough. So it's causing stress for us because we live together and i'm paying for everything. Anyway meanwhile I have a friend whose father heads a law firm and she was going to set my fiance up with a meeting with her father. My fiance refused because they wanted to start him as a law clerk and also he knew he wouldn't be getting paid what he felt he was worth. My question is, do most lawyers start off as clerks and work their way up? Is this common? I just really need to know so that I can let him know this so that he will agree to meet with her dad and hopefully get a job. I understand that when you get a degree you expect to make a certain amount but don't you have to work your way up the ladder first? Any advice on the process of working in law will be greatly appreciated! I'm paying for everything and he isn't contributing to the household finances right now, so I just really need to show him that working as a clerk is something he can do. Thanks!
