The question is about the FE big block engines, made in many different sizes from 1958 to 1976 (truck). All were internally balanced except the '66-'67 410 (Mercury) and the 428 which were externally balanced. I know this "external balance" was accomplished at the flywheel assembly BUT was the vibration damper part of this external balance? The 428 SCJ had an extra balancer on the nose but did the garden variety 410/428 require an engine specific balancer? I know the part numbers are different and restorers want these to be period correct, but will the 390 balancers fit and work on the 410/428?
