question for dodge man?

Hi, I've been trying to figure some things out on a 3.9L v6 in a 94 Ram 1500. The owner says the power is a lot less than his ford 4.2 V6, and the trucks are configured identically except of course one's a ford and the other is a real truck. So he's got cold air intake and 2-in, 1-out cat with 3" all the way to a flowmaster and out the side. Wants headers, but isn't sure if it's worth it. Any advice/thoughts on this? Also I seem to recall reading that the stock manifolds were changed on the 94 and cost 5 horsepower, so if we put some manifolds from say a 92, would that make a difference? would it fit? Thanks.

The Ford 4.2 made 27 more horsepower than the Dodge 3.9. The 3.9 is a more reliable engine. Don't mess with it. When the Ford dies the Dodge will still have 100,000 miles of life. Who gets the last laugh? 5 horsepower isn't worth the hassle of changing a manifold and risking breaking something in the process.
