Question about working at a major financial services firm.?

If I worked at a major financial services firm with offices all over the place, can i develope a book of business in one office, and just up and leave to another office but within the same company and keep my book of business? Say for example i start out in a local retail office, and then want to transfer to the institutional sales desk in another city and take my book with me. Is that possible?
