Question about welding flash burns to eyes?

I was doing some stick welding today using 100 amps, and I accidentally started an arc without the shield down. I was wearing glasses, and there was the clear face mask in place, but I ended up looking directly at the arc for about a full second.

Is it likely I will have serious flash burns from this exposure, and how long will it be until I know (i.e. when I start feeling pain)?

my guess would be that one second time will not give you that flash burn. i watched one one time for about a minute and did get flash burns about 12 hours later. didn't realize what i had done and thought i was going blind. after the incident was over, i had no further complcations.
good luck to ya. glasses mean nothing unless they were intended for welding and are tinted like the mask is.

Search it on the internet. There are a lot of sites that discuss welding flash burns, what to expect, how to treat etc. Not to be taken lightly. Instead of getting on yahoo maybe you should call your doctor. Life would be greatly different with impaired vision.
