Question about Verizon's 4G LTE

For the longest time I thought the whole notion that AT&T was capable of data and voice at the same time while Verizon couldn't was just a bunch of BS. I thought it was wrong because I was able to use Evernote while I was on the phone. I never tried other apps but it would appear that only a few apps are able to work while on a phone call. I guess that means people were right about the whole data and voice capabilities on AT&T.

With Verizon's new 4G LTE, does this problem still apply? I notice that the new phones running on 4G LTE requires a separate 4G SIM card. Does that have any bearing on overcoming the problem of using data while on a voice call? I'm not a expert but wanted to pose this question to those who may know more about this. Thanks for any feedback!
