Question About USMC Boot Camp? Question For Marines?

I have a quick question about boot camp. I am looking to get physically prepared for it myself, but i'm a horrible endurance runner. The IST {initial strength test} they have you complete when you first get there requires you run a mile and half. I can run a mile and a half, but just barely. Then I have to stop an catch my breath. Should I wait until I can run at least two miles before getting there? Or, will my current physical shape be good enough to get me through, noting of course that I will get stronger over time at Boot....?
Not your average frat boy, do you mind if I continue asking questions via e-mail with you? As someone who just graduated you'd be the perfect person to ask. Thanks

Just keep running. Getting stronger and building your endurance can NEVER hurt your chances of surviving boot camp. Showing up and being able to only do enough to just get by, though, is a sure way to catch the vigilant eye of your drill instructor.

I could barely pass the ist as well. and once i graduated i could run pft's in 1830, so you'll be fine. i did know some guys who didnt pass it and they were left behind until they could pass. they stayed with the receiving company, but that was in 02, i dont know if they still do that

When I got to Parris Island this past April, I could barely pass the IST. By the time I graduated (this past friday) I could run 3 miles for the pft like it was nothing. They'll get you into the shape they need you, don't worry bout that. It wouldnt hurt to wait until you can run 2 miles, but you'll be fine as long as you can pass the IST.
