Question about USAF Airborne Communications and Electronics systems.?

Do you work on the computer systems on aircraft?

Then why do they make you train in parachuting and water survival if all you're going to do is work on on-board computer systems?

Do you work on aircraft computer systems while in flight or in the hangar?
How is it?
Ok, since you're going to be with aircrew for most of the flight, even if you're in computer systems...if something goes wrong during flight, even the tech guys needs to know how to bail out of an aircraft? yes or no?
 
The job has different facets.

You are responsible for the electronics in aircraft like AWACS, etc.

You job is to preflight the electronics, ( turn them on and make sure everything works )

To operate and train others to operate the systems in flight.

To do basic trouble shooting inflight if there is a malfunction.

( not electronic repair, but software, etc )

To do electronic repair on broken equipment in shop ( on the ground )

You do not learn to parachute, you do not go to jump school.

What you do learn, is how to handle landing in water, if you do parachute ( use an ejection seat ) or bail out using a regular parachute.

You are a member of the flight crew, you recieve enlisted flight pay.

You work on the aircraft both in flight and on the ground.

And lets be honest here, if something happens in flight and the pilot cannot land the aircraft, your dead.

No one ever actually bails out.
