Question About the Motorola Backflip phone?

so, my ipod was stolen and my current phone (sony ericson) is breaking more and more by the day. i'm thinking about getting the motorola backflip because it has 2gb memory that i can put music on and it seems to be a decent phone. i also really want the apps and i've heard android is good. right now, amazon.com is having a sale where it is $.01 for the backflip if you're continuing a plan with at&t, which i am. i really want the phone for the apps, not necessarily the internet stuff 'cause it's not that important to me. it says that to get the $.01 price, you have to get a data plan, which is $30 a month for at least 181 consecutive days. i'm part of a family plan right now, so i only pay $10 a month. after the 181 days of having the data plan, can i cancel the data plan and stop using the internet and go back to my $10 a month plan?
