I have a friend who upgraded to the iphone 3GS and gave me his iphone 3g (which means he already activated it). I have AT&T and the media net plan. I know that if I start using my sim in the iphone at&t will start charging me with the $30 data plan. So MY QUESTION IS if i were to unlock the iphone, so it is open to TMobile for example, will at&t still find out that im using an iphone or can i use it without paying the $30 a month? I know that at&t uses the IMEI number to track iphones, so is there a way to block this transmission or will unlocking it take it out of the tracking system?
Also if I do unlock it and use my att sim card, can I still use all the features or will I only be able to call and text?
P.S. any suggestions on what program to use to unlock the phone?
