Question About the huawei ascend from cricket?

I just bought the huawei ascend and I have a couple questions I cant figure out how to get ringtones and images off the memory card and stored into the phone? Also I cant check my text messages while I am on the phone??
also when i have the w-fi turned off my internet wont work so do I have to have the wi-fi turned on in order for the internet to work? that takes up battery life doesnt it?
 
Ok i only know the answer to one question. You can check your messages while talkin on the phone. I thought tha same thing when I first got mine. juss press the back button(the lil arrow lookin thing) and itll ake to a screen and yu shud be able to get the menu and all that stuff. Im trying to figure oyut my wifi aint working at all. I DO NOT want to work with metro web. Hope I was of help.
