hi! im selling a bike online on craigslist.com and people are interested in the bike' but their payment method is through a check asking for my personal details like Mailing address-Name-telephone number and they said that they will take care of the shipping method. is it really safe for me to accept that proposition. give me advise please thanks!

I agree with amann! I have recently had one of those "buyers" who emailed me and told me that his "personal assistant" was going to get my details to send out a certified check...well it never came and I went along with the emails and really, who needs a $500 bike when you have a personal assistant - think about that for a minute! Not to mention he would make arrangements to pick up the bike but he also needed my personal info... I emailed him back playing along ( I just wanted his phony check to hang on my wall) and I would assume he got wise to me and never responded again...If this sounds familiar to you, and the emails are or seem shady, take craigslist advise under the above links and do no further business of any kind. Sounds to me like you have a scammer on your hands...they are plentiful on that site! Sorry. Also if you do end up taking a payment from someone such as certified check or personal check or money order from someone NOT local to you then your bank will cash it for you and a few days later when it is discovered that that instrument was a fake....you get hit with the charges for the full amount. Most bank tellers will not be able to spot a phony one right away and it WILL LOOK REAL ENOUGH, I promise you this!
