question about removing programs

OK this might sound silly but its something I have been wondering, I am not much of a computer program geek but still curious.

On the Nokia phones the Symbian software is it more like Windows or Mac ?
What I mean is when you remove a program from the Symbian Phone does it behave like Windows or a Mac, I know when I install a program in my Window$ PC then remove it there are all sort of files left behind, Windows install files all over the place where I think the Mac is more clean when you remove something it is gone. So if I remove a program from the Phone are any traces left ? if so are there any programs that can help clean it up ? or is it Like a Mac when you remove it its gone ?

Thank you in Advance

Programs tend to leave things like settings behind -- sometimes you can find them yourself in a directory with the same name as the program. I would imagine other clutter gets left behind in the equivalent of the registry.
