I have almost done cycling my 30 gallon fish-only-with-live-rocks tank.
This is my first saltwater, i'm experienced with freshwater.
1. First my question is, is a Protein Skimmer needed in my case?
2. I read that Protein Skimmer removes the stuff that could in turn become ammonia.
In this case.. does that mean my beneficial bacteria that i've just built will starve if i use a protein skimmer?...since ammonia will be removed or largely reduced.
And if later in the future my protein skimmer got removed, my ammonia will spike? .. since my protein skimmer would have kept my ammonia low -> my beneficial bacteria low..
