Question about my Dodge Stealth?

I have a 1995 Dodge Stealth NON-Turbo. I know they made three "models", with the best one being the Twin Turbo. Mine is the middle class you could say.

My question is about the "Power/Economy" button in the car. The owner's manual just says the button is used to activate the Turbo charger, but mine doesn't have one. I know the car gets better gas mileage when in "Economy" mode, and when i switch it over to "Power" the acceleration is nearly tripled. What is causing this? My Stealth doesn't have a Turbo Charger, so is it something to do with the transmision, or maybe something with the fuel injectors? I have no clue. My current knowledge about cars is pretty limited.

I'm asking because this button has recently stopped working. There's supposed to be a "Power" light to come on when you switch it over, but it doesn't anymore. And the extra acceleration is gone too. I've been too busy to get to a mechanic yet, but i thought it might be nice to get some idea of what it might be.

Thanks for the help!

As far as I know, it should just change the shift points of the transmission, When accelerating at wide open throttle it should reach redline before shifting to get better acceleration rather than shifting at a lower RPM to save gas. As to why it stopped working, who knows, if your car still runs and shifts well, its probably in the switch or the wiring to the switch. just a possible thought.
