Question about MRI

Hello,

Does the doctor that sends you for an MRI determine what kind of MRI you get? I mean, I m seeking an abdominal MRI. Does it matter if its a Chiropractor or a Gastroenterologist that sends you for the test? I mean, will the doctor conducting the test do it any differently depending on who sends for it, OR will the test and the results show up the same regardless of who sends for it?

Thanks.

Yes and no, if a doctor doesn't usually send out for MRIs, he or she might not make out the order correctly, or express it clearly. That could in turn mess things up for your MRI tech (the person who preforms the MRI). It's then sent to a radiologst who interprets the results and sends their findings to your doc.

Really it depends on how qualified your doctor is, how familiar they are with MRI, how clever your tech is at "decoding" what your doc wants and how experienced the radiologist is at interpreting your specific type of MRI scan.
