Question about Military/Asthma?

My friend has asthma. It is not bad, he body builds and is on both a swim team and a soccer team. He has had it since birth and the only times he uses his inhaler are when he gets allergies from not taking his allergy meds.

He mentioned it to me and I said I would ask on here. Is this something that can disqualify him from either the Navy or Marines, and if so, does the Army allow asthma trainees? Once again, he is not severe and is very athletic. Could there be waivers possibly? Please help. No speculation please, only facts from people with knowledge about this.
Thanks. And another detail I forgot to add. He is a last name carrier. He will NOT be sent to combat because his parents have already stated to him they will not allow him to because if he dies, his family name dies.

Would this affect his ability to get in with asthma? I would think so since he would be in relatively safe conditions and not in combat...
