Hi everyone. I have a question regarding medication for anxiety. Recently my anxiety has been getting the best of me, job, finacially, and things in general. It's starting to affect my home life, and my wife is genuinely concerned. She thinks it may benefit me to possibly try some medication to help when it becomes unbearable. I have 2 questions.
One, how does one go about starting this process? I mean, do I just walk into my doctors office and explain my situation and expect that he's not going to say "sir, these are things that every human being on the planet is worried about. I don't really see a need for medication at this point in your life". Which quite honestly, is what I expect him to say.
Secondly, what types of medication should I be looking into? I'm worried about the habit forming issues and certainly the side effects. Thanks in advance. I've been tooling around these boarRAB for a few days, and there are some really helpful people on here. :)

Unerved, if you are worried about the potentially addictive anti-anxiety meRAB (he benzodiazepines) consider Buspar which is has no addiciton potential. If you have GAD -Generalized Anxiety Disorder, it is not that your worries are that different from others, it is how they affect you. Greg ...GADer on Buspar

I can understand your concern with taking medication and becoming addicted or dependent on them and also the side effects. I've tried just about every single anti anxiety medication on the market and have had side effects with all of them. One recommendation I would give you is to make sure you get something that is brand specific. I had my best results with Zoloft, but not the genaric form. The genaric didn't help me at all. I think if you would pair something like that with a low dose of Xanax just to help you take the edge off when you need it, especially until your med kicks in, you will be fine and won't become dependent. I currently don't take any medication except for Xanax as needed, but my anxiety is pretty bad right now so I may be calling my doctor again shortly. Hopefully not, but that's one thing with anxiety, it's always keeps you guessing. Good luck to you :-)
