I have been a permanent resident in the U.S. since 2007. But after just a year and a half of continuous residence, I decided to attend a college outside of the country. I have been keeping my immigration status via Re-Entry permits. If a person like me decides to join the U.S. Army after this winter semester (that means I'm out of school by January) and serve for 1-2 years, will I be eligible for naturalization as American citizen? (considering my continuous residence and all) Does serving as Army Reserve also qualify, or does it have to be on-Duty?
