Question about insurAnce with verizon?

So I want to get a droid and I found a website that sold them for like 50 dollars but there wasi think it was optional insurance on it. Can I jus get insurance from verizon instead and bring it to them if I have a problem inststead of having to send it to Hawaii and being phoneless for who knows how long
