I understand that Natives have the right to kill game that is on the reservation, but I have experienced a particular tribe killing for fun and for greed. Ex. 9 year old mother bear was shot and killed point blank for taking fish out of a boat that was parked by the river. Ex. 2 Baby bear found be headed, declawed, and bladder removed and left in a tent camping sight. Also the mass killing of the flicker bird because the feathers are used in ceremonies.. I don't understand how this is allowed and I also want to know if this is how it was done by the ancestors.. If a native is upholding the rights of their ancestors would not the treatment of the fellow animals be upheld as well.. The tribe I am talking about is Yurok.. I have seen this happen myself, and other instances of complete disrespect and disregard to animals and their life or role in nature. My question is.. Are there any of you that can direct me to an adequate history of the Yurok Tribe? I want to help educate the people of the ways of their ancestors so that the culture stays alive, but I need to do more research of the Yurok.
I am part of a tribe that believes the bear is our brother, and is only to be killed if absolutely necessary.. and we believe that killing game is only for necessity and that all of the animal is to be used, and thanked for their life..
Please help me these acts are breaking my heart, and I want to help educate..
