I have a 3 year old hedgehog, she's in a cage (linked below) where she walks on the removable tray that the bedding goes on. She normally sleeps in one of those plastic small rodent igloos, every now and then in a small fluffy bed i bought for when she gets too cold. While in the igloo though, she'll do her thing and build a tiny nest out of the bedding to keep warm. However, she'll also dig and scratch at the plastic bottom as if she's trying to burrow. I know this is normal for while hedgehogs, but I was wondering if there was some way I could make it so she could actually burrow?
I was thinking about finding some way to attach another small fixture to the cage, or perhaps put something in the cage full of pesticide free dirt so she could dig in it. She has a few toys but since she's getting up in her hedgehog age and is completely blind in one eye due to cataracts she doesn't much care for playing any more. Nor for running on a wheel or in a ball. Her idea of fun is to now throw around an empty old food bowl of hers and every now and then push around a cat toy in her cage.
Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about how i could make a mock dirt burrow type thing for her to go wild in that wouldnt involve an entirely separate cage.
By the way, this is the cage i have only is just the 1 level which you can see in the other available
