It says on the programming guide for Bell that available with a hd receiver and subscription to packages containing the associated digital channels. So that means right now I only have the Sports 1 package which would mean in HD I would receive TSN TSN2 WGN and the Score HD??? plus whichever free HDTV channels it automatically comes with.

You also have HD theme packs

HD Sports - TSN HD, WGN HD, Raptors TV HD and HDNet.

HD More Sports - RSN HD, Rush HD and HDNet.

HD Variety - Discovery HD, A&E HD and HDNet.

HD More Variety - National Geographic Channel, Showcase, TLC and HDNet.

HD World - Treasure HD, Oasis HD and Equator HD.

For channels like National Geographic, Discovery,etc..... you do not need to have the same channel in your regular theme packs. For channels like Sportsnet, TSN, etc.... you need to subscribe to them in regular theme pack and also in HD theme packs. The HD theme packs are something like $5 each or 4 for $10, all 5 for $15.

So basically you get channels like NBC, ABC, PBS, CBC,......... in HD, but you need to also sign up to HD theme packs if you want the channels above.

I was wondering about this myself... Thanks for making sense of it!

On that note, do the HD versions of channels show the same programming at the same time as the SD version, or are the schedules different?

Example: If I'm watching Discovery HD at any given moment, if I flip over to the regular Discovery will it be the same show but in SD? Do some programs air only on the SD channel while they broadcast something else on the HD station, or do they just show it in SD on the HD channel?

Most of the time the HD channel has the same programming on as the regular channel. But Discovery HD seems to have different programs some of the time.

Most HD channels will show the exact same programs at the same time as the SD channel, however, some are different. Discovery HD is a completley different schedule to the Discovery Channel and some shows on PBS HD are different. APTN HD also has a different schedule. The rest are all the same.

So if I understand this correctly for channels like TSN, sportsnet and such I will need to subscriple to them to get them in HD, even if I already subscripe in SD.

yes and you still have to keep the regular theme packs that contain them channels. So compared to a channel like National Geographic/Discovery/A&E/etc... where you can just subscribe to the HD theme without being required to subscribe to News & Learning 2 or Variety, with Sportsnet,TSN you still have to subscribe to Sports 1 pack as well as the HD theme packs.

Excellent, thank for the helps guys this really answered my questions!!!
I think I am going to make the jump to HDTV!!!

Ok guys I have one more question that I was thinking about today while watching television. Will we notice a change in the picutre of a channel that is not in HDTV, I guess what I mean is a channel like OMNI 1 (215) if I was watching that with the HDTV receiver will the channel come in fuzzy or just like it would with a regular receiver?

Just the same I would imagine. Although the HD receiver will be hooked up via HDMI/DVi or Component, so it might just be a small percentage better.

I had just the basic with 3 french packages, now will get HD,

Will i get those ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS HD ??? even if i did not have them in SD
