Dumledore says, "Well, I am sorry to tell you that Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, retired at the end of last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs."

Now, as I understand it, in the "world of HP" limbs can be regrown quite quickly. "Skelegrow" grew Harry's arm bones back overnight. The exception is the case where the injury was caused by a curse.

However, the *implication* in Dumbly's statement is that Kettleburn had accidents handling dangerous creatures which cost him some limbs and/or digits, etc.

My question is this: is there a *reasonable* reason to believe that Kettleburn may have lost his members as a result of his duties as Care of Magical Creatures Professor, or did he perhaps lose them as an auror or some other previous profession which would result in amputations that could not be repaired magically?

The answer will affect my work-in-progress, a full-length fan fiction of Luna Lovegood's first year. Thanks,

Jim
