Question about financial aid and transferring colleges in California?

I currently go to a community college in California, I finish my transfer requirements at the end of fall 2009 (in december) and I want to transfer to a state college in January 2010 (winter term 2010). What do I have to do in terms of financial aid? Is it even possible to transfer in the middle of the school year? I've read somewhere that you can't receive a grant for more than one college during a single school year.

I have already added the school code number to my FAFSA for 2009-2010. And once I can apply, I will (I think the application time is in May).
