I got my first ever ticket over the summer and I finally have my court date next week. I have never gotten a ticket before but from what I understand, I will likely be given an offer (assuming the cop does indeed show up, meaning my case is not dismissed) before going in front of the judge. This may sound silly, but do I get to kind of barter with them to make a deal? More important to me than the money are the points that go on my license. So, for example, if they say they will lower the fine to X amount of dollars and lower the points say from 4 to 2, can I say that I am willing to pay a higher fine and have no points on my license or anything like that? If it matters, I live in NY and was charged with going 50 in a 30. As I mentioned, this is my first offense. I am 25 years old, got my license at 18 years old, so my record is good. If you know the answer or have had past experience and are willing to share, it would be greatly appreciated!!!
