Question about chat site and police pop up message?

Ok I was on a chat site last night and was talking to a couple of different people. I was having a conversation with one person when in the conversation bubble between me and them popped up this message saying this is the police we have your ip address documented...please stay on so we can ask you few questions....I didn't know if it was a creepy scummier or not and I wasn't going to give out info to somebody that I did not know so I x-ed out. Do you really think it was the police or do you think it was a scam or hacker trying to scare me. What do you think will happen?

Well you have to ask yourself something first... Where you doing something that you shouldn't of been doing?? If the answer is no, then it's a scam. If you were doing something that you shouldn't have been doing, I would still say the answer is no. The police aren't going to send you a "pop-up" message warning you that they've caught on to you and to just sit there and wait. If that was the case, they would never catch any perv's. The police would come busting down your door.
