question about car stereo volume and hearing loss?

I don't find myself to like loud music (i only listen to my ipod at 40-50%) and when i went to concerts ( about 2 times in my life) i wore earplugs. But recently i've been listening to music in the car at about 50% in one car and volume 12-13 in another car, cus i like the bass alot. My ears do not ring or anything but they do feel a little uncomfortable after i get out of the car. Am I damaging my ears? And is it OK to do this for a little while without damage?
