Question about C#/Asp.net freelancing?

If I decide to become a freelancer(web developer) what is the appropriate technology to learn?? I was thinking asp.net but I wonder if php is not a better option?? Can cheap clients afford an asp.net/C# website? I just don't want to focus on the wrong technology and find out that people can't afford the pricing of my services. Thanks
 
If you think one is better, learn both.

This should sum up what you need to learn:
Java(with attention to Awt,Swing, for applets)
HTML
XHTML
PHP
MySQL/SQL
JavaScript
JavaServer Faces or JavaServer Pages (jsp or jsf, jsf is better)
and maybe some XML
and Enterprise JavaBeans(and its neighbours in EE)

But before you spend years of time and money looking for all this, feel free to email me and I will tell you where to find free books/tutorials and the equipment etc. to get you started.
