I have a question,, i injured my back when i was 18 it was l5 for many years my back would go out to the point where i had to crawl due to the spasms,, the last time i had my back go out was 12 years ago,, i just decided to be very careful on what i did to keep myself from moving wrong. Well a couple days ago my lower back was killing me and my right side was swollen,, i went to the dr and had x-rays that showed narrowing in l5 s1, plus my natural curve was gone i am straight as a board my dr wanted to know if i had ever had physical therapy which i did about 16 years ago,, so she wants to send me for pt, i was doing so good i have no idea what i did to put me in this position, and i may never know. Does anyone know what the narrowing means?? When i saw my x-rays the rest of my back was great until l5 it was very noticeable i could see the problem right away before they even told me, what i did not know was the straighting of my back when they pointed that out i was shocked. I have been sick for over 2 years with intestinal bleeding and now this problem pops ups,, i am at my enRAB witt,, i am afraid of pt due to the last time they almost put me in the hospital with the stuff they wanted me to do,, i am 42 years old so i have been dealing with back problems for over 20 years.. Again any help on what narrowing is would be appreciated,, i looked it up on line but i just got more confused.

Blondie, here is a brief answer to your question then I will include a link that will give you further information that I hope will help you but first:

Spinal stenosis: Narrowing of the spaces in the spine, resulting in compression of the nerve roots or spinal cord by bony spurs or soft tissues, such as disks, in the spinal canal. This occurs most often in the lurabar spine (in the low back) but also occurs in the cervical spine (in the neck) and less often in the thoracic spine (in the upper back).
