I am torn in which direction I want to go. I currently have a mountain bike. I am a looking to get a new bike but I am thinking I might want to get a road bike. I am not a pro, just looking to get into biking again. I would be riding on bike trails road and maybe dirt roads. just looking for an all around quality bike.
thanks in advance.
so you think I should stay more towards a mountain bike type bike but maybe with less agressive tires for the street. I want to upgrade because the gear set on my bike now is crap. It was a dicks sporting goods special.
I cant believe they edited that out lol. Its the name of the store.

you are going to fall if you ride on dirt roads with a road bike that has slick tires. i fell a few times on dirt because i thought i could just ride over that patch of dirt on the road. ofcourse you are not a pro. if you were, you wouldnt be asking this question. the team would have set you up with an awesome $10,000 bike complete with 3 different wheelsets for various competitions. i think a road bike is a bad idea unless you will STAY ON THE ROAD. dirt roads will make you suffer if you are on a road bike. test ride a road bike. the ride is much stiffer (call it harsh if you want) and will make riding on dirt roads unbearable.

If you don't need a hard core mountain bike take a look at some of the comfort or pathway bikes. I bought a Forge Saranac for use on paved paths and rail trails and it's liter and faster then a mountain bike. Don't get fooled by the name and stay away from department and sports store bikes. Shop quality bikes are not that much more expensive.

road bikes never leave paved surfaces or you will be changing flats and truing wheels all the time! Get a Hybrid with a thinner tire such as a 700x32 or else stay on the mtn bike! If you type Dick's it will show up. ...with an apostrophe. My third bike was a dick's special and although better than w or k mart anything it still was lacking in spec. Quality anything can only be found in bike specific shops, Not at Dick's sporting goods stores.
