question about a 1998 ford ranger?

so i recently got a used 1998 ford ranger and I am trying to fix it up a bit. For one, I want to get tires for offraoding(I live in a canyon) and I want to get bigger tires than I already have. Would I have to get my truck raised for bigger tires? This is my first car so I don't know all that much. If you can provide any links with tires that fit my truck that would be appreciated. thnx....this is also the first question i have asked on yahoo so sorry if I did something wrong lol
