Question about 2000 Ford Mustang?

Well I do not really know a lot about cars, I am 17 years old and this is going to be my first car, though it is second hand...It does still look good. It is automatic with a V6 engine, 2000 model with 90k mileage and still in a good looking shape.

Ok anyway, the problem is when I tried to drive my soon-to-be car. Every time I step on the gas from a stop motion, the engine makes this awkward sound. It sound like a soft-train kind of sound. Like "Chuga-chuga-chuga" sound and it only lasts for like 1-2 seconds but I'm still worried about it.

After it give me that awkward sound THEN it gets smoother, like a mechanical whirring sound. It sound like a brand new drill, smooth and quiet.

I haven't bought the car yet but I still depends on how serious that "awkward sound" is. I asked my father and my friend's opinion about it.

My dad said that it maybe because of the "bearing" or the "clutch", they are probably bad or worn out.

My friend said that it might be because of a loose belt or something.

They both said that it might be because of the transmission. Well, if it is because of transmission then I would not buy it because I would spend more in fixing than the cost of the car itself.

They came up with different Idea and I just want more opinion about other people.

Most convincing answer will get 10 points ASAP.
Question is..

What do you think is wrong with it?

and

How much would it cost me to repair it?

Thanks

sounds like an air flow problem to me. if you step on the gas and it takes a second to get going it means in not getting sufficient air flow. cost to fix if that is the problem under $100.

It's the transmission. It's a dud. Don't buy the car. Don't buy any car with an automatic transmission. since about 1980 NO automatic transmission is economically repairable. You can spend less rebuilding the engine than rebuilding a tranny. If U MUST have a ford (Fix or repair daily) (found on road dead) get one with a stick shift. To fix the transmission problem U described correctly should cost roughly $2,000. NO 8 year old car is worth that! Be 17 all U want but be informed. You will wreck your first car and maybe 2 or three others i DID. Dig it dude.......yer first cars should be stick shift hoopties. Purchase price under $1,000. U can find some good ones. I'm 62 now. I'm currently driving a '78 Toyota Celica. Little wimpy 4 banger will outrun and outcorner and outdrag that 2000 mustang any day. I bought it for $795. Yes, its a 5 speed stick shift. It makes all of 96 HP top end around 115mph. That fast enuf for tickets in any state. I'm thinking you want a Mustang because it's a Mustang, not because it's a good car. Hell, I got a 1971 chevy one ton pickup truck that will run rings around that 2000 stang. iT'S NOT ALL THAT WITH A BAG OF CHIPS. Deny the Mustang mystique. U own and drive and repair 10 or 12 Fords like I have and you will learn what crap Ford cars are. I'm talking real fords....rear wheel drive, 63-72 mustangs V8 engines Newer is NOT better. The '63 mustang was built on a Falcon chassis. It was a piece of shit. And that piece of shit with rear wheel drive and a 2bbl 289 engine would bury that 2000 stang u thinking of buying. Stock Honda accords of the same year will beat that stang. I telling you, don't buy a car and pay for a name. Do yer research, buy a car for performance, reliability, and driveability. A Mustang is a Barbie doll car. All show and NO go. Yer daddy's Oldsmobile is a better buy for the price. If You must have a "Stang" save up your pennies and buy an old one. A real one. Mid 70's Rwd, V8, Shelby if possible. Don't screw around with a 2000 Fwd wimpy POS. You will only be disappointed when my 4 banger Toyota blows yer doors off.
