Quality of 70's cars versus today's?

Isn't it sad how the general build quality of cars has gone down so much since the 70's and certain 80's vehicles? If you look at just about any 70's car like a 1975 Firebird for instance, you'll notice every little piece is so high quality and solid. Also, so much more of the car is made of metal and there's neat attention to detail on little things versus plain and cheaply made plastic junk everywhere.

Even today's high dollar luxury cars just don't compare to the build quality of a 70's base model Chevy. My grandpa just bought a 2007 Escalade, and it's luxurious but beneath the leather seats and Cadillac logos it just feels like a plastic 2007 Suburban to me.

Even many American cars in the 80's had that great vintage build quality. If you look at a 1987 Caprice for instance or most 80's GM trucks, they still used "real" metal and high quality parts all around.

Cars do get better, they make the cars safer then back then. some of the old cars make look nicer but that dosnt make them better, one thing that continues to get better is the engines. a more powerful engine is normally better built which means it will last longer and less likely to have problems. a 1980's camaro v8 had i believe less then 200 horsepower, and the new oens have way more, even the 1997-2002 v8 5.7 have 305 horsepower. and the material the cars are made of, are safer.
