It's a real mix of brilliance and absolute tosh. Full of continuity errors, and cars that were 10 years too new to have existed in Mod, but saved by Daniels' performance (there were some other notables too) and the fact that it was a film that just had to be made. The soundtrack, compared to the original album, is also poor.

if a movie exists out there which doesn't have its own private army of continuity lapses anachronisms and blunders perhaps somebody would be kind enough to point it out?

Your so right, and who notices them until they are pointed out to you?
It is still an iconic film, not least because of Phil Daniel's wondeful portayal. I will never forget him shouting out "bell boy" To Sting!!
