I've been smoking for almost 20 years. I had tescticular cancer 3 years ago and that wasn't enough to get me to quit, although I tried unsuccessfully when I was diagnosed. I've been hacking a lot recently for the first time since I first took up the habbit and I now have sleep apnea. I have an I.Q. of about 150 so this is not an intellectual problem, I've thought of all the pros and cons, reasons to quit, and effects of smoking, but still find myself helpless. I won't take Chantix because I tried it and had some bad side effects. I did quit for a month or two using the gum about 4 years ago and got some more of it last year, but it's just been sitting there in the box starring at me for 12 months. I am a recovering alcoholic and had 6 years sobriety before a minor relapse that I conquered last year. I also haven't smoked any pot for ten nyears and I was an avid user and proponent. If I can ditch that crap I know I can drop the cowboy killing cancer sticks that will be the nails in my coughin if I don't quit soon. Any suggestions from people that can relate would be most appreciated.
