I am currently studying for a degree in English Literature in Lancaster, England/UK and was hoping to pursue a career in writing after I finish. By this I mean I hope to be published as a fiction writer, but would like to get a job for a newspaper or in a publishing company for example to gain experience and a living.
I like the idea of spending time in Ireland as I've heard places like Belfast and Dublin are popular areas for writers. I've also visited Dublin and really liked how much literature has an impact on the culture there.
I'm not sure exactly what to do once I finish my degree in two years time, whether I should look at postgraduate courses in Ireland, or are there any other writers out there who could give me any advice? Are there other cities which are good for writers? What sort of employments would suit?
