Purchasing an iPhone 3g off ebay?

I'm going to purchase a white iPhone 16gb 3g on Ebay. I have another year of a contract left and I'm currently using a samsung eternity. What do I do when I get the iPhone? Do I take it to the AT&T store, have them put my SIM card in it, and get the iPhone plan on it? Help!
 
You can't put any other SIM card in the iPhone. It has a special one, so you can't go on other networks with it.
