Purchasing a Data plan; Verizon family share?

I am a part of family share plan with my dad and brother. i was wondering if one of us pays for a data plan, are we all covered? or do we individually have to each geta data plan for our own phones?
I know my friend has at&t and since she has the data plan for herr phone, her mom and grandma have it too for no additional cost
