Purchase: T3 vrs. T5

I have used a Treo for a few years. I want to try Grafitti and need to store much information on my PDA.

With the T3 I am concerned about battery life and with the T5 I am concerned about size. I want to be able to carry it in a shirt pocket with the flap snapped (shirt pocket flap, that is).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I carry by T5 in my shirt pocket with the "default" leather flap. The only thing you have to worry about is bending over and having the T5 fall out. It does not sit above the cuff of the pocket.

I would never carry a T3 (and I had one) that way because of the slider and the design of the buttons - errant turn on's by the device by accidental pushes of the button.

I hated the slider on the T3 and apparently the novelty has worn off because it appears that there will not be another slider from P1......must be a reason.
 
I have mixed feelings about the slider on my T3. The slider occasionally closes when you don't want it to, such as when you are pressing the power button or puting the stylus back in the silo. It is also a pain to constantly open the slider if you want to use the Grafitti area or the on screen keyboard. This is not as big of an issue on the T3 as it was on the TT because the T3 allows on screen writing. I liked the feel of the slider on the TT. It was not as loose. The slider on the TT locked on both sides of the screen, whereas the T3 only locks the slider on the left side.

The main thing that is good about the slider is that it makes the device small in size. I haven't had many problems with buttons accidently being pressed. I disabled the auto power on when the slider opens and I also reassigned the voice record button so that it is mapped to the launcher. The button is now used to exit programs and I don't have to worry about accidently starting a voice recording session that uses all of the available memory.

The T3 meets my needs so I am not in a hurry to replace it. However, I might be tempted to get the new Life Drive when it comes out. If I don't have the money to get the Life Drive, I might look at the E2 because it will include bluetooth and possibly have the same amount of memory as the T3.

Thank you for the in-put. I carry my Treo in my pocket and occassionally turn it on by pushing a button, but that is just a minor inconvenience. However, if I lost it by bending over, that would be a big deal!


It is good to know about the slider problem. I will take that into consideration.

It is good to know the recorder button can be reassigned. I do not understand "mapped to the launcher."

You bring up another very informative subject, what may be coming. Can you tell me or refer me to more information about "the new Life Drive" and "the E2". I will search the forum, so if it is there, I don't want to bother you with repeating.

Can you comment on the battery life, please? I leave my Treo off the charger for days at a time, but I do not use it for hours at a time. Could I do the same with the T3?

Mapping probably isn't the best word to use. When you assign buttons, there is a list of programs that pop up for you to choose from. I selected Applications from the list. Now the record button does what the center D Pad button does after it is pressed for a couple of seconds. It allows you to exit programs. The record button does it better because you don't need to wait for a couple of seconds. You get a quick program exit.

I have never fully drained the battery on my T3. If you don't play a lot of MP3s or use infared a lot, you can probably go 2 - 3 days off of a charge. The battery charges when the T3 is plugged into the cradly or USB cable. This helps the device stay charged up.

Regarding the new devices, most of it is pure speculation. palmOne has not officially confirmed these devices exist. Some people claim they got hold of leaked information and it has built up into a series of rumors. The rumors are starting to provide concrete evidence that these devices will be released soon.
