Ok so I know Halloween has been and gone lol but I'm asking for next Halloween. I live in New Zealand and we don't have the orange skinned pumpkins at the supermarket. I found some seeds at a shop that are for a variety called Dills Atlantic Giant and the skin is orange. Can I use this type of pumpkin to make a Jack O Lantern if it doesn't grow too big? I was thinking of letting it grow to a certain size and then remove it. But I want to use the insides for a pumpkin pie... would it be ok? I have absolutely NO experience on growing pumpkins or any vegetable for that matter. What happens if you use a pumpkin before it has grown to full size? Does it still taste the same?
thanks Shooter1 - I will have a look but I am doubtful we will have them in NZ ... probably not allowed due to the possible threat of some kind of pest or bug we don't have here... it's so hard to get seeds from overseas because most are not allowed in. It sucks. I understand why though. If I can't get anything then I may just use a normal pumpkin with green/white skin. I might be able to paint it orange.... though it won't matter when it's dark because all you see are the glowing eyes and nose and mouth!!

I found two other varieties but they are probably too small for carving... Jack Be Little and Wee Be Little.
I haven't found any of the varieties you suggested Shooter1 on the net under pages from NZ. I will have to look around.
