Hi, my asthmatic son has been on pulmicort 1xday for the last 7 months and doing great!. However this past month he started throwing up and then diarrhea..hi pediatrician said it was viral and wait it out. But it's been 2 weeks and he still has very pale diarrhea and stomach pains. He's missed a lot of school and has lost some weight too..He is only 6...
I'm just wondering if that could be a side effect of pulmicort??
Any experiences??

I seriously doubt it - particularly after all this time. Take him back to the doctor...

I'm with Titchou--seven months, no side effects, then they're not going to start now.
I've also never heard of inhaled corticosteroid therapy causing vomiting and diarrhea.

If it is viral, there isn't anything the doc can do to get rid of the virus faster, but may be able to tell you how to manage your son's symptoms. In the mean time, make sure he's drinking lots of water and eating as much as he's able to.

Hope he gets well soon!

thank you both...He did have a stomach bug that his sister caught later too..nasty...He was normal for 5 days and then fever hit him, for 5 days+ cough+ diarrhea again..upped pulmicort as instructed for whenever his body is under stress. After 5 days of low grade fever (103 is low grade to his ped) he got chest x-rays and blood test that revealed viral bronchitis.. So albuterol 3 x day and pulmicort 2xday.. Hopefully he'll get better soon so he can go back to playing like a normal 6 year old child. His doctor mentioned it can take up to 6 weeks for his cough to resolve:dizzy:
Thanks again!
