I was in aerobics class this morning and it was even a low impact one but we did alot of leg kicks. I must have pulled something. My lower back is out and I have siatic pain too. It's all on the right side. I came home and put a heating pad on it and can barely get out of the chair. I just took an 800 Ibup. Is this what I should be doing? Help!

You are doing the right things. You can alternate ice and heat in the lower back. Don't lay around for more than 3 days but rest is the most immediate best thing you can do right now. If you have any nurabness, loss of bowels or urination trouble call your doctor. In a couple days add in a little bit of light walking. About the only thing the doctor would probably add to your routine is a muscle relaxer if you have really bad spasms you can call. A hot soak if you can tolerate getting into tub/jacuzzi. If after 5 days you are still too bad you probably want to get in and see the doc.

Thanks for the advice. I have been up and around today and staying on pain meRAB. It is still really sore. This early evening it is getting a bit more stiff and sore since I was walking around most of the day. I have an ice pack on it. It feels like it is a siatic issue. Ugh! I guess it will just take time..not good for me because I am a Massage Therapist and I can't work on people in this condition.

Hope you are feeling at least a little bit better. I just started an exercise routine myself and I am very very sore today. This is day four for me so I am torn between taking it easy or trying to at least do some stretches. In my routine when it gets to leg kicks I only do a few because I know what will happen. So don't give up-just modify the things you know can hurt you and you should do just fine, Again I hope you feel better! Hang in there!
PS I am sore because I am just starting my routine and my poor muscles have been negelected for a long time.

Have you tried mckenzie exercises? Being a massage therapist you should be able to understand the mechanics of "unloading" the discs - google it and you should be able to find a site that explains how to do them. Just don't push it too much to fast.

Good luck
