Publishing Short Stories?

I am writing a book of short stories. So far I have a few but not enough for a whole book.

My question is: If I send out some of my short stories to publishers now; would I be able to republish them all as a book when I have enough? Or are they no longer my property to publish in a book once they are published separately?
 
welcome to the club...it is called rejections. first try to publish anything, it is really nasty out there, just to let you know...be happy if anything published like anywhere. there are zillions of writers trying to do the same thing as you.
