Publishing Short Stories to the New Yorker?

I recently wrote a short story and I would like to get it published, and the only possible magazine that I can think of is the New Yorker. I know for a fact there are other magazines out there, but I'm completely oblivious to their existence. However, my only concern about publishing to the New Yorker is that I'm Canadian. Does the New Yorker still accept work from people who aren't American? If they do not, does anyone know a magazine that Canadians are able to publish their work to?
Also, I am curious to whether the New Yorker publishes poems as well.
